Amel Brahim-Djelloul sings "Lucrezia – Portraits de femme" with the Paladins !
Join Amel Brahim-Djelloul and the Paladins on April 23 at 8:30 pm at the Theatre de Corbeil-Essones in the programm "Lucrezia, portraits of women".
Lucretius, a noble Roman woman, has just been raped by the son of King Etruscan, these invaders occupying Rome.
She steps on stage to tell her story and witness the gods, her family, the whole world. She goes from amazement to suffering, from the desire for revenge to the need to be forgiven, in search of her lost honor.
Handel composed his «Lucrezia» in Rome in 1709. Inspired by Scarlatti, whose cantata «La Lucretia Romana» was a model of the genre, he gives life to a historical and mythical character through a real miniature opera. Just like that of Scarlatti, his cantata is a tour de force for the performer, who carries with his singing a speech as intimate as daring, as disturbing as sincere.
Through this exciting musical exploration of human feelings, the myth of Lucretia crosses the centuries. It arrives intact in its strength and violence until our time when it resonates particularly.
